WHYFOR Commununications

WHYFOR is a boutique design firm in Tucson, AZ specializing in high-style design and communications management for many types of clients. They deliver corporate communications in many different media including print, promotional items, web design and copy writing. Their specialty is tying multiple media streams into a unified message.

Arizona Goes Solar

WHYFOR initially approached me to build a site supporting a solar power initiative in Arizona spearheaded by all of the large electrical providers in Arizona. Arizona gets a LOT of sunshine so there is a lot of solar power adoption and the power companies encourage solar development through knowledge assistance, rebates, grants and by building their own industrial scale solar power production plants.

They needed a way to disseminate information about incentives and how individuals and businesses are developing solar production resources. As the site needed to be able to import and update data quickly and easily, WHYFOR tapped me to write the system. The site is built on DotNetNuke as the content management system with custom modules written to display the incentive from the database as well as to create a Google Map of the existing solar installations and their info. I had to extensively customize the map module in order to render the installation information the way the client desired it. I also developed an Excel import application to allow the updated installation information to be uploaded with a single click.

The project was delivered on time and on budget, impressing the client and allowing them to use it for promotional materials almost immediately.

Lasertel is a high-tech company in Tucson that produces very powerful LED arrays for use in medical, defense and other environments. They have a broad catalog of solutions and needed a good looking solution to display them while still giving purchasers and engineers the information that they needed to pick the right products. WHYFOR designed the website and I built the system in DotNetNuke to allow easy updating of the static portions of the website while still allowing the database driven part to look really good and operate smoothly.

This was another high-pressure, quick turnaround system as the client needed their new product line to be available on their new website in time for an upcoming trade show. We pulled out all of the stops to get the design, content and actions to come together for the final site.
