United States Postal Service (USPS)

Contact: Brent Raimey, Information Systems
Product: Transitional Employee Allocation (TEAL)

USPSTEAL is a system, written in Visual Basic, version 3, to manage scheduling for thousands of seasonal temporary workers that the USPS employees. TEAL used relational databases to handle scheduling of employees at particular machines without allowing scheduling employees to be in two places at the same time, or scheduling two employees to use the same piece of equipment at the same time. Reports were generated to detail actual vice projected scheduling levels, individual employee schedules, and other functions.

Product: RECMan

RECMan is a Visual Basic for Excel application to manage the staffing at Remote Encoding Centers (REC), where the USPS scans zipcodes and routes mail. I worked with a number of other developers to create a complete system tying together Excel, C DLLs, Visual Basic, reports, help files, printed documentation and installation packages. Both TEAL and RECMan show how Code Gurus can assemble teams of developers for larger projects, tie together disparate technologies and deliver complete solutions.
